Ercol Butterfly Chair
The Butterfly Chair is part of our new Ercol Range. This reflects the classic Ercol furniture range created in the 1950s by the company.
The Ercol Butterfly Chair is perhaps the most interesting of the Ercol Range. It was first released in 1956 but adapted for modern life. It’s spindle legs giving the chair a beautiful silhouette while the seat itself seems to mirror the back rest, hence the name ‘Butterfly Chair’. Manufactured in Ercol’s specialist factory in Buckinghamshire the company oversee every part of the making process.
The chair comes in different woods and finishes to best suit your home.

A brief history of Ercol:
Ercol was founded in London during 1920 by Lucian Ercolani. The Ercolani family still run Ercol, almost 100 years later.
During the Second World War Ercol produced 25,000 tent pegs a day for the war effort. After the war Ercol created furniture using the least amount of material possible and created various spindled and stream bent kitchen chairs. In 1946 Ercol released their Windsor Collection, a classic range which Ercol later became known for. This was followed by the Loveseat, the Studio Couch, Butterfly Seat and Stacking Chairs in 1956. Infact Ercol’s range has grown and grown, moving into their wonderful Factory in Princes Risborough in 2002.
It was also in 2002 that Margaret Howell, started working with Ercol to reissue a selection of classic designs from their back catalogue. It is this range that we at Design House Norwich are now stocking. Ercol offers sustainable, beautiful and practical furniture for everyone.
